Tiwanaku used advanced agricultural techniques to produce large quantities of food on the dry Altiplano. Their raised-field system used mounds separated by small irrigation canals. This method was recently reintroduced by archeologists and is used today by modern Bolivian farmers.

The Nazca created gigantic outlines of animals and abstract shapes in the earth, probably for religious ceremonies. Their full shapes can only be seen from the air.
